The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a technique used to copy and amplify small segments of DNA for testing. PCR testing is one of the most widely used lab tests for finding viruses and other pathogens. It is considered the best test around due to it's accuracy and precision. Regulators TO has nurses and testers who are specially trained in swabbing for PCR tests and we are partnered with nationally accredited labs in Toronto for quick and efficient turn around.

Rapid Testing

Rapid test technology enables the film industry to meet the increase in testing demands for communicable diseases. While not as precise as PCR, our certified and approved rapid tests are extremely accurate and can provide extremely fast turnaround for results. As the preferred method by the film industry because of the turnaround time and lower material cost, Regulators TO specializes in rapid testing for film and television production. Our digital integrated tracking and testing system allows for daily testing with a minimal effect on productions times.

Communicable Disease Screening & Contact Tracing

Digital Contact Tracing and Screening in accordance with Ontario Rules and Regulations. Screening testing looks for individual infections in a group even if there is no reason to suspect those individuals are infected. Screening involves testing asymptomatic individuals who do not have known or suspected exposure to communicable diseases in order to make individual decisions based on the test results. Contact tracing is an important tool to help diagnose people who may have communicable diseases sooner and prevent the virus from spreading in your community. Below are some of our most frequently asked questions regarding Communicable Disease Testing & Compliance Services in film production and events in Toronto. Please contact us with any additional questions you may have using our contact form.

  • 1. What is the difference between PCR and Rapid Testing?

PCR testing detects and copies segments or the RNA that is specific to the communicable disease. Rapid tests detect fragments of the protein (not DNA) of the virus and returns results in as little as 15 minutes. PCR tests usually take a minimum of 4 hours up to a few days before a result is conclusive. PCR testing is the gold standard and the most accurate of all the tests, however Rapid testing is much more convenient and cost effective, while still being very accurate.

  • 2. How often do you recommend testings for our production?

The more frequent the testing, the safer your production will be, however we recommend testing every 48 hours for rapid testing and once a week for PCR testing. This is highly dependant on the department and individual, as some are in contact with others much more. For high contact individuals and departments, we recommend rapid tests every day and PCR tests 2-3 times per week.

  • 3. How do you determine your communicable disease protocols?

We take our information and advice from Public Health Ontario, our infectious disease specialist, and the latest rules and regulators by the film unions. The data and information relevant to communicable diseases is constantly changing and we adjust our protocols for best practice and safety as they do.
